Croatia is situated in the southeastern part of Europe on the Balkan Peninsula on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. In 1991 Croatia separated from former socialist federation of Yugoslavia and declared its independence. Zagreb became the capital of the country. At first there was a civil war which had a strong influence on the economy. But now the country has recovered and has joined NATO and the European Union.

Croatia’s capital Zagreb is located in the northern part of the country, chronicles date back to 11th century. Places worth seeing there are the former residence of Marco Polo, Brijuni National Park etc.
However the most popular attractions in Croatia are at the seaside - beautiful coastline and islands. For example, the most important travelling destination in Croatia, the coastal city Dubrovnik, that leaves an unforgettable memory to all visitors. Established in the 7th century, it is Croatia’s most popular resort with warm climate and picturesque scenery that includes mountains and the sea. Dubrovnik is often called as “the pearl of the Adriatic Sea”.
